Daisy

Daisy.png

Daisy Buchanan is married to Tom Buchanan, who comes from old money, and has a more bourgeois past than Jay Gatsby has. Daisy is living proof of commodities as a betterment of socioeconomic status. She is with Tom solely for the fact that she wants his wealth. She admires Gatsby and this admiration shows us who Daisy really is. Daisy Buchanan married Tom for his value, not his person. Daisy was never really in love with Tom. She was in love with his commodity value. The opposite is true for Jay Gatsby when it comes to Daisy’s relationship with him. Daisy may have loved Jay, but they were from different classes. He was lesser than she, and even when he reached her level, Daisy still saw him as a playing chip in the game of classist society. Daisy always becomes uninterested in Gatsby because ultimately, he cannot give her what she does seek. -TC
