F. Scott Fitzgerald

The Author of The Great Gatsby

F. Scott Fitzgerald was born on September 24, 1896 in Minnesota. He attended Princeton until 1917 and then joined the army. His first book, This Side of Paradise, was published in 1920, the same year that he married Zelda Sayre. His daughter was born in 1921 back in Minnesota. He lived in Europe from 1924 to 1926, and The Great Gatsby was published during this time. He was diagnosed with tuberculosis in 1935, and died of a heart attack on December 21, 1940. Fitzgerald believed at the end that he was a failure, as his works only gained immense popularity around five years after his death. His writings are considered literary classics today. -EB

"There was never a good biography of a novelist. There couldn't be. He is too many people, if he's any good."
